Meadow Brook Theatre located on the Campus of Oakland University, in Rochester, Michigan is accepting applications for Scenic Carpenters. Seasons produce 6 shows and remounts “A Christmas Carol.” This position is covered under an IATSE contract (applicant does not need to hold an IATSE card). The carpenter can also could be pulled to run a show or help with other departments as needed.
Requirements:
o 2 yrs. professional experience minimum
o Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings
o Knowledge and ability to follow shop safety procedures
o Proficient with hand and power tools
o Strong knowledge of scenery construction.
o Able to lift at least 60lbs
o Able to work at heights of 25’
o Basic Welding
o Basic rigging
o Clean driving record
o Can drive a 26ft truck
o Strong verbal and written communication skills.
o Multitasking skills
o Highly motivated and willing to learn.
o Good attitude and work ethic.
o Sense of humor
o Ability to take instruction and feedback from supervisors.
Preferred Skills
o Basic scenic painting
o AutoCAD experience
o Lighting skills
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
o Construction, load-in and strike all scenic elements.
o Maintain a safe work environment, following all safety procedures and guidelines as outlined
by the Technical Director and Shop Foreman
o Picking up materials/transporting scenic elements.
o Theatre maintenance
o Could run shows
o Cleaning

We are currently accepting resumes/applications for our 2025-2026 season internship program. We fully produce 6 shows a season and remount A Christmas Carol every season. We are looking for versatility in our interns with the ability to work in several different departments and a “positive can-do attitude”.
Positions/descriptions available:
2 Acting/Administration Interns
Would understudy for all shows - including 3 musicals
Would audition for all shows and be considered for roles
Would receive Equity candidacy points
Would work in the administration office, box office and help run raffle table
Would possibly be on the backstage crew
Would be involved in all light hand and focus calls
1 Scene Shop Intern
Would work primarily in the Scene Shop – Scenic Paint skills a plus
Must be able to lift at least 60lbs
Willing to work at heights of 20’-25’
Would be on the backstage crew for A Christmas Carol and at least 1 other show
Would be involved in all Light hang and focus calls
1 Costume Interns – must have the skills to stitch and be on wardrobe crew.
Must have basic sewing skills
Wigs, make-up and Craft Skills a plus
Willing to work at heights of 20’-25’
Would be on the wardrobe crew for A Christmas Carol and at least 1 other show
Would be involved in all Light hang and focus calls
1 SM/PM Intern
Position includes points toward becoming equity
Assisting the SM in rehearsals
Willing to work at heights of 20’-25’
Would be on the backstage crew for A Christmas Carol and at least 1 other show
Would be involved in all Light hang and focus calls
1 Lighting/Scene Shop Intern
Would work in the lighting department
Would ALSO work equally in the Scene shop
Would work on A Christmas Carol as Spot Operator
Willing to work at heights of 20’-25’
Would be on the backstage crew/spot operator for at least 1 other show
Would be involved in Light hang and focus calls
Specific Details include:
Contract Dates are approx. Late August 2025 to (end of) June 2026
$499.20 per week (housing is not provided)
Cleaning and lending support to assigned department as well as other departments as needed
40 hours a week (overtime will be honored)
Load-ins, strikes, light hangs, airport runs, etc.
*PLEASE NOTE: ALL INTERNS MUST HAVE AT LEAST A BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF LIGHTS (Hang and Focus) AS WELL AS BE WILLING TO WORK ALL LOAD-IN’S AND STRIKES.*
